The getting gate

The getting gate is the landmark of Luebeck. It is a leftover of the attachment systems of the Middle Ages (builds in 15. Century). By the high dead weight (3.5 m thick walls) the getting gate in the course of the centuries sank so deeply that the lower shooting schiessscharten are today to 1/2 m underground. Over the former eingangstor of the city between two powerful towers is to be read: Concordia Domi Foris Pax (unity in the inside, outside peace), this Innschrift reflects the self-confident its the Hanseaten. In the getting gate is since 1945 an city-historical museum (among other things a historical torture chamber) accommodated.
