Jakobichurch - The church with a life - boat!

In 1334 the three-aisle brick-built church was built as the church for sailors and skippers. The Jakobichurch was one of the very few churches which was not damaged during the bomb raid at Palmarum 1942.

In the chapel of the northern tower a memorial for those sailors had been built who never returned from sea. Here you can also find the wreck of a life - boat from the sailing-school-ship "Pamir" which sank with 80 officers and midshipmen on board in 1957.

A special sight in the Jakobichurch is the "Small Organ" which still has it's original works of an organ dating back to the 16 th century. That's the reason why organ-recitals from the time before Johann Sebastian Bach lived can be heard in their original version.

Next to the Jakobichurch you still can see a group of three-storey brick-built houses from 1601, which served as pastor's houses.
